DIY & Decorating Competition Winners
Thank you so much to everyone who entered our DIY competition, all of the entries were absolutely incredible.
This has been the hardest one for us to judge so far! But it has been so much fun for us and everyone who entered should be so proud of their work, we can tell that some of these projects have been years of blood, sweat and tears in the making!
GRAND PRIZE WINNER - Whole House Renovation
GRAND PRIZE WINNER - Sara Brinkhust
Congratulations to the winner of our grand prize for the "Whole House Renovation" category, Sara Brinkhust (Canada), with her stunning medieval thatched cottage!
"I was gifted an old Greenleaf house that had been in a shed. Totally renovated it into a Medieval hedge witches cottage.
Stripped it bare, cut real beams for inside and out, laid floors, built chimneys, refitted windows, made new door, and several pieces of furniture. Exterior also had stucco applied, and thatched roof.
Quite a bit of my building supplies came from Minimum World (window frames etc) ,and some of the accessories!
This project I made in 2023 got me back into miniatures, and I’ve been creating builds ever since (12 so far!)"
WINNER - Single Room Renovation
WINNER - Clarissa Pelly
"The Paper Cup" book café created by Clarissa Pelly (USA) is the perfect example of what mini magic can be created in just a room box!
"Small book cafe room box, 1/12th scale.
Book shelves, displays, counter, and most of the books are made from scratch.
Recessed lights in ceiling along with 3 hanging lights, wired to battery pack. "
WINNER - Furniture Upcycle
WINNER - Julie Biddle
Congratulations to Julie Biddle (Australia) for her creative customisation of barewood furniture pieces to create this decadent bedroom!
Julie submitted multipile pieces of barewood furniture for this category and all of them are amazing, but the bed is our favourite! Turning that simple barewood bed into a velvet-clad canopied masterpiece is nothing short of genius!
"Reinventing items and using odd bits and bobs to make furniture is my happy place! ie: Making picture frames from hot glue and food moulds, fire surrounds from banister railing/screws/dowels, etc! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my humble efforts - I’m sure you’ll get some stunning entries!"
WINNER - Exterior House Renovation
WINNER - Michelle and Jim Bozic
Husband and wife team Michelle and Jim Bozic (USA) modified, built and decorated this beautiful log cabin kit and we think you'll agree that the finished product is unreal!
Timber Ridge" started out as a box of barewood timbers that had to be glued together to form walls and floors, almost like a real cabin! The build alone took 6 months and we are honestly so impressed, we would never have the patience for a build like this!
"It is the “Shenandoah Log Cabin” from Duracraft. This started out as a box of barewood timbers that had to be glued together to form walls and floors, almost like a real cabin!
We did some kit bashing and modified certain aspects like adding a wall on the second floor to create a bathroom and changing out the entry door. We installed channel moulding to hide round wires for lights. The log cabin took 6 months to build.
My husband Jim and I have been building dollhouses together since 2019 and really love the hobby. We enjoy spending some weekend time working on our houses. The both of us delight in making different houses and themes. We even imagine ourselves living in the houses that we build. I am a retired elementary special education teacher and my husband is a small engines mechanic.
Currently, we are working on rehabbing a 1930s dollhouse into Santa’s home and workshop! We are hoping that will be a future contest entry."
WINNER - Handmade Miniatures
WINNER - Judith Porter
Well done to Judith Porter (UK) for the potting shed she made for her mum as a Christmas present - what a wonderful gift!
The shed was an MDF kit which Judith constructed and altered. She made the tongue and groove effect panels inside and out with balsa wood, as well as the floorboards, and stained and aged them to look worn.
Most of what you can see in this scene is handmade, including the seed trays and seed, the work bench and shelves, the hat and bag hanging on the back of the door, and even the stove!
"The shed was an MDF kit which I constructed and altered - it had four walls and a roof which I left off so as to see the interior.
I made the tongue and groove effect panels inside and out with balsa wood, and the floorboards, and stained and aged them to look worn. I added the glazing and the window and door frames as well as adding the cross pieces to the inside of the door and made the handles.
I made the shelving, the bench, work bench and the stove (based on an online tutorial by Julie Warren) and all of the accessories (which include seeds trays and seed, bird seed, garden mesh, trug, etc). I didn’t make the clay pots (but I aged them), watering can, boots or tools.
The mud on the floor is tea leaves and PVA glue, the hat is made from embroidery fabric stained and stiffened with PVA glue and the bag is leather. The final additions were the light in the stove and the hanging lamp which are battery operated.
My mother was thrilled so I hope you like it too."

RUNNER UP - Whole House
WINNER - Katie Floyd
Congratulations to Katie Floyd (USA) for her creative revival of this Bungalow Cottage kit!
Fantastic and cohesive design both inside and out!
I’ve loved dollhouses, and dollhouse furniture as long as I can remember! I built this Beachside Bungalow Cottage for my daughter, back in 2012, when she was still in elementary school, eventually it was packed up and placed in storage where it remained for the last 13 years; until I happened upon an Instagram page of the most amazing dollhouses.
From there my passion was reignited….spending hours upon hours scouring Pinterest and Instagram, so impressed at the quality and creativity within the dollhouse community.
Inspired by so many amazing dollhouses and artists, I knew I wanted to dig out my daughter’s dollhouse from storage and let my creativity flow.
I added an addition in order to have more room. Repainted the house Black and created an additional patio area. Added lighting throughout.
Some of the handmade items within the house are the fireplace, couches, etagere, bar cart, dining room chairs, range hood, chair in the bedroom, bed linens and pillows, and most of the art work, including “bamboo” frames.

WINNER - Ann Gilfether
Congratulations to Ann Gilfether (UK) for her witch themed Welsh Dresser!
We can't wait to see what else you come up with, excellent work!
Here we have a witch theme apothecary Welsh dresser cabinet, that I made especially for a very dear friend, who is like a second mum to me, for her Christmas present. She absolutely loved it and says she will cherish it forever.
I am new to models, but absolutely enjoyed making this so much. I even went on to purchase another 5 Welsh dressers from yourselves, so I can make some more in different themes throughout the year.
RUNNER UP - Exterior
WINNER - Joanne Maclean
Congratulations to Joanne Maclean (USA) for her gorgeous French Villa Dollshouse!
Very well decorated and wouldn't look out of place in a dolls house magazine. Great work!
"I started doing miniatures during Covid to keep busy and pass the time, starting with an English Manor dollhouse kit.
I recently finished a French Villa dollhouse gifted to me from a friend I got interested in miniatures. She likes the construction phase and I like the decorating phase.
My oldest son told me that doing miniatures scratches that decorating itch that I apparently have. Two large dollhouses have maxed out my space so I am looking for smaller items to do miniatures in — room boxes, book box, birdcage and picture frames."
RUNNER UP - Single Room
WINNER - Lana Heasman
Congratulations to Lana Heasman (AUS) for her incredible transformation piece, "La Petite Boutique de Fleur"!
Excellent detailing and a scene we all wish we could step into!
"My Edwardian Era Flower Shop - “La Petite Boutique de Fleur”
In January 2024, I decided to use an old wooden crate which I found amongst my husband’s “treasures” in his shed. My thought was to create an open fronted florist shop.
I love the Edwardian Era, & this fitted in with the way I wanted to decorate my flower shop.
I have always loved gardens, flowers, flower shops & garden centres, so it was a natural progression to want to recreate one of my own design.
When we were in Paris, I noticed the florist shops included seating areas,& many other treasures, if only for display purposes. Some restaurants looked like florists & were full of greenery! This all sparked my decorative interest & it was an irresistible urge to combine this full on look!
Buying more miniatures, lots of pots & flowers was another great reason to embark on this project! Most of the items inside have been purchased from MW, with a few exceptions, being some of my personal lifelong memorabilia.
My husband helped with my ideas, doing the heavier carpentry jobs of adding a roof to my crate, & also reducing the length of it, so that it fitted on my cabinet. The dormers, roof design, chimney & trims were my own work, culminating in painting the whole structure a dark colour. I then added the columns for interest & as many other features as I could include inside & spilling out onto the sidewalk as well!
It all grew larger than I had ever imagined!!!
The family who “own” the flower shop are seated in the outdoor area, as they have someone who works in the shop, so they can relax !
They have 3 children, Lucian, Leon & baby Louise."
RUNNER UP - Handmade
WINNER - Alison Craig
Congratulations to Alison Craig (UK) for her gorgeous shop and brilliant handmade items!
We particularly loved the handmade quilt and the fimo crafted tiles. Excellent work!
"When I found myself in lockdown 2020 I decided to take up the Dolls house hobby as I had always been interested in miniatures. I discovered Julie Warrens' tutorials on You Tube, ordered a kit and planned my project.
I altered the layout as I decided to make a Haberdashery shop, naming after a great grandma, Annie Little. All the furniture is made from Obeche wood, tiles are made from Fimo as are the food items. .
Soft furnishings were hand sewn, I'm particularly pleased with my patchwork quilt. Of course I had to buy wallpaper, and items I couldn't make myself.
There are still a few finishing touches I will no doubt add here and there but it has turned out far better than I imagined. I am totally addicted to the hobby now and have completed a Christmas room box and just started my next house."
DIY & Decorating Competition Special Commendations
SPECIAL COMMENDATION - Christina Watson
COMMENDATION - Christina Watson (USA)
"This project was inspired by a little family visit to Starbucks.
We gathered up all of our trash and there was so much of it. I felt like I could make something out of the waste.
My little fairy house is made out of a Frappuccino cup and air dry clay. The door is made with stir sticks and the roof with the cardboard coffee sleeves. The chimney is the iconic green straw. The inside has various minis in 1:60 scale either made or collected.
I hope you like it and find some inspiration in what you can do with a little trash!"

"Here is a 1974 Weebles Treehouse i found at a thrift store!
I painted it and made the trunk look less plastic and more life like! Enjoy!"
